Mission
DIA's mission is to create and promote spaces for the liberation of undocumented immigrants in the United States. We seek this liberation through education, the celebration of culture, and activism. Our vision is to reflect the honor and dignity of a people, made up of many nationalities, races, and cultures, who reject discriminatory laws that criminalize and dehumanize undocumented immigrants.
We work to recognize the long history of social, economic, and cultural contributions made by immigrants, both undocumented and documented. As an organization working for justice within the immigration space in Georgia.

History
Dignidad Inmigrante en Athens (DIA) is an organization that began in Athens when a group of undocumented students, embarking on a cross-country trek to Washington, D.C., visited Athens.
Athens residents, organizations, and immigrants joined forces to support them with lodging, food, and meetings where they engaged with the public.

Impact
Dignidad inmigrante has been a light a light in my life for five years they have helped me with fresh food every week. It makes me very happy to know I can count on this resource because food is a fundamental part of my wellbeing. Receiving this help, helps me pay for other bills.

I want to thank the DIA team for everything they do. Bringing the Consulate from Atlanta to Athens, we are so grateful that they were able to make this happen. Many people were able to get their documents without having to go far.

It brought me so much joy to be able to attend the LatinxFest and being there is like being transported to your country. It’s beautiful seeing so many people share their cultures. Thank you DIA and Latinxfest!

Serving with DIA has changed the way I understand volunteer work. Everyone involved - clients, volunteers, organization leaders - is invited to share community so that the work feels like taking care of family. DIA proves Athens' immigrants are people who meet their own needs, overcome their own obstacles, and help each other create better lives.
